  • Quick recap of what happened in Italy in these past 2 years: - elections resulted in a three-party victory which made really difficult to form an actual governement -5 star (33%) movement formed an alliance with far right party Lega(17%), putting G. Conte as prime minster - The alliance fell one and a half year later. Pact was broken by Lega, now at 34% in polls. Basically drained 5star electoral base - Renzi left the Democratic Party, creating a new small party, Italia Viva right after forming an alliance between DP(19%) and 5star to create a second governement, led by Conte - pandemic came and it was a huge mess - at the beginning of 2021, Renzi made the governement collapse for literally no apparent reasons. - after another hard three weeks, Mario Draghi (former BCE president) was called by our president to become prime minister. He's now leading a governement that is basically held together by all parties joined - far right wants to go to elections though. But here's the catch: parlament can't be sent home in the 6 months prior to the next President election. This period starts in August, so DP wants to hold on to avoid Legs and their alliance to elect the new president through the parliament. Curious to see what's gonna happen, while we are still in the middle of a pandemic and far right is probably going to crush everybody else in next elections..that should be in 2023..or not? Btw, 68 governements in 73 years, yay

  • As an politically intarested and history lover italian I want only to clarify that not a single thing said in this video by this monumental bafoon named John Oliver is true. Its not even close to the truth. Fascism is no where near to be even a remote problem in Italy domestic political situation and for anyone that is interested corruption, ignorance of the general population, general incompetence of the political class and most of all the failures of our direct sistem of democracy are ruining my beutiful country. (Italy is a republic only in name unlike USA unfurtunatly we are a direct democracy)... Just think of how much dameging can be to have only 5.5M of peaple (10% of the population) on wich the rest of the country relies upon. 17M of peaple are retired...8M serve or work with them, than we have 7M of students and a wopping 21M in the public workforce! Our economic structure is insane. And it is inevitably on the decline. As the 10% of the country that truly runs it is taxated to oblivion, entropenourship is disincentivized and their political power its near to nothing. The true problem in italy is populism. Left wing populism to be precise but more generally a congenit problem of all democracies in the old world. As many ignorants hold significant political power over the smaller contius and economically more valueble population the polititian are incentivized to act for the worst possible politics in order to gain more votes. The sistem itself is a floated and has been failing for seventy years by now. You americacans are truly blessed to live in a federetion with the most beautiful costitution in the world, a repubblic and with the electoral college and yet you listen and belive to such an idiot like this guy poisoning your minds with lies fabricated to further his political ageda to a point that I can only ask myself if you all are ignorant or malevolent.

  • Please Do A Piece on Michael Jackson Hi, I’m writing to you because Last Week Tonight as opposed to other such shows actually cares about issues rather than chasing the headlines. It has been 11 years since Michael Jackson passed away yet to this day what the common consensus is that he is a taboo subject for many. I recall you guys once did a piece on Public Shaming. Michael Jackson was a genius, an abused child. He was strange. He was one of the few major stars from the 80s who came out of the 80s without a heroine addiction. He in his own way did many, Many strange things, but so do most other superstars. And more than others he actually cared. About children, about the earth. About the issues we are discussing to this day. While Icons like Freddie Mercury, Elvis Presley, Prince, Beetles and many more are known for their good works, Michael is known for the something which he has repeatedly been acquitted for. It’s the truth that anyone looking for will find instantly but due to the “where there is smoke there is a fire” narrative, even 11 years after his death, the new media treats him like a criminal. All his trial pages are open for the public to read. He WAS weird. Making a ranch called neverland, hanging out with children. Trusting people he shouldn’t. But I urge you please cover him, hear beyond the noise like you guys often do. The most successful African American Artist of all time was a humble man child, who respected women, loved children and cared about our environment. He was not a heroine junkie, a private man who did not share his disease even all the way back in 1993 even though he was accused of wanting to become a “White Man”. He was eccentric. Hanging out with animals and caring about them. This article covers multiple sources, some of which I had read previously. Michael Jackson was a multi talented millionaire pop star, who was not an alcoholic, was a caring father, a filial son, Treated women with respect, cared about the planet and it’s beings. The press that constantly kept DASHING him, had found a way to subvert their guilt. All those years of calling him a “Jacko”, “monkey” and many more hurtful things was justified if he was a paedophile. They NEEDED him to be guilty. Such a man cannot exist in Hollywood. Such public shaming had allowed and to this day allows Michael to be a victim to all this slander. Please do a piece, if not one that exonerates him then one that once and for all cements the fact the Michael Jackson, the greatest pop star, the first African American Idol was a paedophile. Not through unknown sources or flimsy headlines but through concrete proof. A news echoing in a closed chamber will not reach anyone, most fans who what to know the truth know it, other people will read the headlines but not the explanations. It’s about time the general public knows. Please do a piece on Michael, the blatant mistreatment by the media, The systematic racism he faced during his trials. Please don’t let the first African American Singer be remembered for the things he did not do, He was weird, weird enough to annoy Freddie Mercury with Bubbles feedbacks, weird enough to let kids crack raw eggs over Michael Jackson, Weird enough to play water balloons with children. But he was not a paedophile and the world needs to acknowledge that. He was in no way a “Perfect Human” but he tried his best to live right and we should not punish him for doing that. On this year please exonerate this Black man, the Justice System has done it two decades ago, it’s about time everyone else does. Please do a piece on Michael Jackson.

  • 3 years later: 2018 - 5 Stars Movement and League make government Prime Minister - somebody nobody ever heard of, Giuseppe Conte. "We're gonna abolish poverty!" - Di Maio says Economy still weak and public debt on the rise "I'm gonna save Italy from illegal immigrants!" - Salvini says People got stuck on boats in the middle of the sea for days and days; two security decrees that solve nothing, but take away international protections, close hospitality centers for refugees, leave people (and kids) on the street. 2019 - Salvini orders policemen to remove pacific protesters, uses social media to ashame dissidents Scandal about League - Russian government ties Summer Case of Bibbiano, a little town where a group of child psychologists are found manipulating children. League and 5 Stars take on a conspiracy accusing Democratic Party of selling Bibbiano's children (fake news). Salvini goes to the beach, where disco dancers dance "Fratelli d'Italia" remix. He drinks a lot of mojito and, while in pants, decides to make fall the government, and asks for new elections in order to get "pieni poteri" (full powers) League leaves the goverment. No new elections. 5 Stars join PD ("those of Bibbiano", Di Maio called them a few weeks before) for a new government alliance (it sucks too, but at least it's not racist or omophobe), with Giuseppe Conte prime minister for 2nd time. 2020 5 Stars and PD government. Salvini is on tiktok and makes memes (but he's still taken seriously). COVID19 comes. Lockdown. Salvini freaks out. One day he says to open everything, the day after to close it all. League starts losing votes, but the other far right party, Meloni's Fratelli d'Italia, is growing. Lockdown is over in May. People spend summer like there's no tomorrow. Beaches and disco-clubs are full. In autumn government plays like everything is done. They say schools are safe because of wheeled desks they bought. They spend billions and billions of debt euros to pay useless bonuses, save for the umpteeth time the serial bankrupt company Alitalia and nationalize companies here and there. They don't even use European Health Fund (36b of euros) because 5 stars don't want to use EU money. Everything is fine, they say, and then the second wave comes. Nobody is prepared, despite months of time to get ready. People don't want second lockdown (violent protests in major cities). Curfews and restrictions on restaurants, cinemas, theaters, schools (want wheeled desks?) CHRISTMAS MUST BE SAVED! Conte says "we'll save Christmas". December - new peak of contagions and deaths, red zone. But nobody can steal Christmas! Who cares of public health! A lot of people keep moving around, and contagions struggle to go down. 2021 Vaccinations start. They decide to organize a plan involving the construction of useless 1500 gazebos with flowers on them, at the cost of almost half a million euros each, for a total of over 500 millions of squandered euros. Italy, because of the government incapability to write down a serious plan, risks not to get the EU covid recovery money (200 billions), indespensable to avoid bankruptcy. Renzi kickstarts a government crisis. Conte resigns. Mario Draghi, former ECB president, becomes the new prime minister, with a parliamentary majority involving almost all parties (Salvini and 5 Stars, those who built their electoral fortune on blaming it on Europe, suddenly found themselves to be europeists). See ya next update ...

We not only have no good politicians, the people have almost completely been bought over by those now in power. The Corona show them for what they are, a bunch of power hungry abusers that could not care less about those they rule. And the people? think they are saints having been completely brain washed. Add the Cataluña situation, Pais Vasco situation with former ETA and their influence and the regional goverment that actually try to do something but are constantly impaired by the central "government" (Since they cannot even govern how to wear their own pants) and you will find a country at which you won't know if better laught or cry

  • Thing is, Renzi promised that if the referendum that he proposed didn't pass he would resign and never return to doing politics again. In the year when this video was made (2018), Renzi did actually came back creating a new party, supported by people who apparently are either deaf or stupid. Renzi is having a really bad time trying to get power and the only important choice he had to make in these two years was done a few days ago: Currently the government is under some kind of emergency protocol, giving the PM almost full power over anything without having to pass through the parliament or the senate, this power to the PM caused backlash and the right wing parties have been protesting ever since the start of the NCoV pandemic because of it. These protests normally wouldn't do anything, Conte (the PM) is of the "Green" party, a party which is actually left and is supported by most parties from centre-left to extreme-left, Italia Viva (the new party Renzi created in 2018 because he couldn't return in PD, his old party) is a centre-left party that supported Conte up to now; Fast foward to two weeks ago, the right wing parties actually managed to do the so-called "Government Crisis", a period in which the government is at a standstill because of lack of support and this is due to Renzi commenting about the PM's actions during the pandemic. About 3 days ago Renzi was asked in the parliament to say whether his party supported the PM's or if they were against him... the votes turned out to be what we call "Maggioranza debole" (Weak majority) because while Renzi and his party could give Conte the "Maggioranza assoluta" (Absolute majority) most of Italia Viva voted against, thus giving the PM a bit of votes less than what he would need to continue on with his government. The government is now messed up and everybody's at the edge of their seats since if the government gets removed, the citizens would be called to vote *again*, *DURING* the pandemic's most critical times and basically everyone is now saying "Sure, Conte's actions are questionable and he should be removed, though not *now*". TL;DR Renzi is a massive hypocrite with eyes only towards money and support, the Italian government is now in crisis and the only people which will lose something are the hard working citizens. Also about the "Salvini supporter" who gunned down some immigrants while driving his car, it has been found out that he isn't affiliated with Lega (Salvini's party) but more with Casapound and Forza Nuova (even more alt-right parties).
